1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using the PlayCaller API ("the API"), you ("Developer" or "you") agree to be
bound by these API Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you are using the API on behalf of an
organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.
If you do not agree to these Terms, do not access or use the API. Use of the API constitutes
acceptance of the most current version of these Terms, which PlayCaller reserves the right to
update as described in Section 6.
2. Data Sources & Nature
PlayCaller API data is derived from two primary source categories:
-
Publicly available sports journalism — beat reporter reporting, press releases,
official team communications, and publicly accessible social media posts. PlayCaller does not
own the underlying journalistic content.
-
Proprietary ML processing — extraction summaries, confidence scores, depth chart
impact projections, source reliability scores, and other derived intelligence fields are
original works created by PlayCaller's proprietary models and are protected intellectual property.
Important: All data provided through the PlayCaller API is for informational
purposes only. It does not constitute financial, gambling, or wagering advice. PlayCaller makes
no representations about the accuracy, completeness, or fitness for any particular purpose of the
data provided.
3. Permitted Use
Subject to these Terms and your paid subscription, you may:
- Access the API endpoints included in your subscription tier via HTTP requests
- Store API responses in your own database or caching layer for operational purposes
- Display derived data to end users within applications you own and operate
- Use the data to power analytics features, research tools, and fantasy sports applications
- Build and commercialize applications that incorporate PlayCaller data, provided you do not represent the data as your own proprietary intelligence
4. Prohibited Use
You may not:
-
Resell or redistribute raw API data as a standalone data product, data feed,
or API service — you may not productize PlayCaller data as your primary offering
-
Sublicense your API key or allow third parties to make API calls using your credentials
-
Scrape or bulk export the API in excess of your rate limits with intent to
archive or replicate PlayCaller's dataset
-
Reverse engineer PlayCaller's ML models, scoring algorithms, or proprietary
extraction logic
-
Misrepresent API-derived data as independently sourced intelligence
-
Use the API for any unlawful purpose, including facilitating illegal gambling in jurisdictions
where sports wagering is prohibited
5. Rate Limits & Fair Use
Your subscription tier determines your monthly API call allocation and burst rate limits.
Current limits are published in the API Documentation.
Monthly Allocations
- Hobbyist ($49/mo): 1,000,000 calls / month
- Pro ($149/mo): 5,000,000 calls / month
- Pro+ ($299/mo, Q3 2026): Unlimited calls
Fair Use Policy
Even on unlimited-tier plans, PlayCaller reserves the right to throttle or suspend access
for usage patterns that:
- Impose disproportionate load on API infrastructure
- Indicate automated bulk export with no apparent application use case
- Violate the prohibited use provisions in Section 4
PlayCaller will notify you by email before throttling or suspending your account for fair use
violations, unless the violation involves security or prohibited use requiring immediate action.
6. Service Modifications & Discontinuation
PlayCaller reserves the right to modify, deprecate, or discontinue any API endpoint, feature,
or tier at any time. We are committed to providing developers with reasonable advance notice:
-
Breaking changes to existing endpoints (parameter removals, response schema changes):
minimum 60 days notice via email to your registered address
-
New optional fields added to responses: no advance notice required
(your implementation should be tolerant of additional fields)
-
Endpoint deprecation: minimum 90 days notice
-
Pricing changes: minimum 30 days notice before your next billing cycle
These Terms themselves may be updated at any time. Continued use of the API after a Terms update
constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. Material changes will be communicated via email.
7. API Keys & Account Security
API keys are credentials tied to your account. You are responsible for:
- Keeping your API key confidential — do not expose it in client-side code, public repositories, or shared environments
- All API calls made using your key, whether authorized by you or not
- Rotating compromised keys immediately via Settings → API Keys → Revoke
- Notifying PlayCaller promptly at security@playcallerapp.com if you believe your key has been compromised
PlayCaller is not liable for damages arising from unauthorized use of your API key if the
compromise resulted from your failure to secure the key.
8. Billing & Cancellation
Subscriptions are billed monthly on the anniversary of your signup date. All fees are
non-refundable except as required by applicable law.
- Downgrading your plan takes effect at the start of your next billing cycle
- Upgrading your plan takes effect immediately with prorated charges for the remainder of the cycle
- Canceling your subscription maintains API access through the end of your paid period
- Accounts with overdue balances will have API access suspended after 7 days
9. Disclaimers
THE API IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND,
EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY,
FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
PlayCaller does not warrant that: (a) the API will be uninterrupted or error-free;
(b) any data will be accurate, complete, or timely; (c) defects will be corrected;
or (d) the API or its servers are free of viruses or other harmful components.
Not financial advice. NFL player status data, performance trends, and prediction
market intelligence signals are provided for informational and entertainment purposes only.
Nothing in the API output constitutes financial, wagering, or investment advice.
10. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, PLAYCALLER SHALL NOT BE LIABLE
FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING
LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE
THE API.
PlayCaller's total liability to you for any claim arising under these Terms shall not
exceed the amount you paid to PlayCaller in the 3 months preceding the claim.
11. Termination
PlayCaller may suspend or terminate your API access immediately, without notice, if you:
- Violate the prohibited use provisions in Section 4
- Engage in conduct that poses a security risk to PlayCaller or other users
- Fail to pay subscription fees after the 7-day grace period
- Provide false information during account creation
Upon termination, all rights granted under these Terms immediately cease. Sections 4, 9,
10, and 12 survive termination.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to
conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved
through binding arbitration in accordance with JAMS rules, with proceedings conducted
in Delaware.
